Joplin Tornado

I spent Wednesday working on a story about local relief efforts for victims of the F5 tornado that devastated Joplin, Mo., three days earlier on Sunday, May 22. I have covered several tornado disasters in the past, nothing compares to this.

Odds and Ends

It’s been a busy month and a half. Here are some of my favorite news and feature photos in no certain order for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy.

Burning Down the House

Last month I was assigned to shoot a training burn that was being performed on an abandoned house by the Rogers Fire Department. Talk about your “gimme” assignments. I was looking forward to this one. We don’t get a lot of fires in our area, which is a good thing, so when controlled burns are planned it usually gets covered.

Christmas in the News

It’s almost Christmas. Here are some of my favorite news and feature photos from holiday-related events over the past month. Merry Christmas!

Recent Work: Post Vacation

So it’s been just over a month since I returned from vacation. Looking back at my photos from the past month I realize just how busy I’ve been. I think I’ve shot pretty much all you can shoot as a news photographer: Sports, Features, News, Portraits and Food shots. The only thing missing is a big spot news event.

Recent Work: Home Stretch

It’s now less than one week until my 3-week vacation in the Philippines and I’m counting down the days like a kid eager for Christmas to arrive. I have been busy with work covering news for the paper and Arkansas in the recent NCAA Fayetteville Regional for Hawgs Illustrated.

Recent Work: On The News Beat

I’ve been on the news rotation the last couple of weeks which means I shoot a lot, A LOT, of stand-alone features and some news when it happens. Here are some of my favorites from the last few weeks.

Burning Holga

News photos shot with a cheap plastic camera. Not a new idea, but it’s new to me.

Hobbs Burn

I had the opportunity to cover a controlled burn at Hobbs State Park and Conservation Area a week ago for The Rogers Morning News. It has been a while since I have worked in a forest environment covering a fire. Back in my days working at The Daily Times in Farmington, N.M., I covered my share of large wildfires.
