Painting Shadows

I love working with shadows and am always on the lookout for odd and interesting opportunities to mix people and shadows together. Earlier this week I was passing by the Hobby Lobby in Rogers and noticed a painting crew working at three different heights to cover a wall. I knew if I waited them out I could come away with something special.

Frisco Fest

I strolled down to the Frisco Festival in downtown Rogers from the office last night after getting off work. I’ve covered this event for the past several years for the The Morning News and I decided to shoot a few frames of the goings-on for myself for a change.

Water Kick

I’ve been on a water feature kick lately due to the fact that it’s been really hot here in NWA. We’re beyond the normal July/August hot — it’s stupid hot.

Looking Back

I grabbed this frame a few weeks back when we were desperate to fill the hole on the front page in Bentonville. I hit one of the traps I knew I could rely on at any point in the summer if I was in a pinch.

Feature Hunt Gold

Sometimes even the most mundane feature hunting grounds will churn out gold. I grabbed this frame after arriving for a sports assignment for The Morning News at a youth baseball tournament in Springdale last week.

Stay Cool

A couple of water features to give everyone cool thoughts headed into a hot weekend.

Odds and Ends

It’s been a busy month and a half. Here are some of my favorite news and feature photos in no certain order for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy.

Snowed Out

As my head hit the pillow on Tuesday night my mind was clear of any worry that the snow predicted to fall overnight would be anything beyond what we had seen from two winter storms a week earlier. When I woke I looked out my bedroom window. “Oh my God,” was all that came out.

Christmas in the News

It’s almost Christmas. Here are some of my favorite news and feature photos from holiday-related events over the past month. Merry Christmas!

“Wiener Takes All” Dachshund Races

The Bella Vista Animal Shelter held its fourth-annual “Wiener Takes All” Dachshund Races over the weekend in Bella Vista. Oh man, this was just the assignment I needed to take away the blues of a bye week.

Benton County Fair

Kids, farm animals, fair food and carnies. Another Benton County Fair has come and gone. Here is a selection of some of my favorites from last week.

Recent Work: Post Vacation

So it’s been just over a month since I returned from vacation. Looking back at my photos from the past month I realize just how busy I’ve been. I think I’ve shot pretty much all you can shoot as a news photographer: Sports, Features, News, Portraits and Food shots. The only thing missing is a big spot news event.

One For The Road….

I thought I would post one more photo before I head off to the Philippines. I had an assignment today to get a shot of a Bella Vista kid and his big cabbage. After digging up the 19.6-pound monster he goofed around with one of the leaves. A great shot to send me off on my vacation.

Recent Work: Home Stretch

It’s now less than one week until my 3-week vacation in the Philippines and I’m counting down the days like a kid eager for Christmas to arrive. I have been busy with work covering news for the paper and Arkansas in the recent NCAA Fayetteville Regional for Hawgs Illustrated.

In The “Doggie” Bag

Whenever I get an assignment for a pet-related event I know it’s going to be like shooting fish in a barrel. The 18th annual Dogwood Walk on the lawn of Old Main in Fayetteville was just such an event.

Recent Work: On The News Beat

I’ve been on the news rotation the last couple of weeks which means I shoot a lot, A LOT, of stand-alone features and some news when it happens. Here are some of my favorites from the last few weeks.
