I finally had the opportunity to see a Philippines Tarsier up close and in person during our visit to the Philippines back in July. During the first week of our trip we spent four days in Bohol and the Tarsier was at the top of my priority list, along with the Chocolate Hills and simply enjoying the paradise of Panglao Island, which is where we stayed during the Bohol visit. Tarsiers are one of the world’s smallest primates averaging about the size of a lemon and rarely larger than an apple. They’re somewhat solitary in nature, spending most of their lives clinging to their favorite branch. The habitat we visited had about a dozen or so Tarsiers spread across the complex. Each one was unique unto itself, which made them even more interesting. They were like little people, each with its own discernible identity. Here are two of my favorite “portraits” of the little guys and/or girls — one thing I couldn’t discern was their gender. Enjoy.
